Kirklees and Calderdale charity lunch widens reach and aims

Kirklees and Calderdale charity lunch widens reach and aims to smash fundraising targets in 2020

Reaching a jaw-dropping fundraising total of more than £32,000 last year, organisers of the annual Kirklees and Calderdale Charity Lunch (KACCL) are hoping to raise even more in 2020 to support children and young people across the region.

This year will see four new local causes benefit from money raised at what will be the fifth KACCL event:

  • The Nick Smith Foundation, established in memory of father-of-two Nick Smith from Halifax, who died aged 38 from Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The foundation supports MND research, bereaved children and rugby league across Calderdale and Kirklees.
  • Calderdale SmartMove is a charity supporting homeless and vulnerable individuals and families across Calderdale. Whether it’s fleeing domestic abuse or families with children who can’t afford their next rent payment, they source safe and secure tenancies and offer intensive support over a 12 month period.
  • Lawrence Batley Theatre is an arts venue in the heart of Huddersfield staging a range of drama, dance, comedy and family work. At the centre of their charitable organisation is a commitment to young people. Through their Young Company they provide weekly drama sessions as well as the opportunity to meet and work with professional artists.
  • Global Diversity exists as a central hub in Huddersfield Town Centre to support the most disadvantaged and vulnerable younger members of society and help steer them away from gang culture, crime and life on the streets. It aims to help individuals through personal development, advancing education and apprenticeships.

This year’s KACCL will take place on Thursday 3 December at Cedar Court Hotel in Huddersfield. Tickets are now on sale.

Organisers are hoping that the fundraising total will surpass last year’s fantastic £32,446 which contributed to the astounding £100,000 KACCL has raised over the last four years.

Steve Crowther, the chair of the KACCL Committee and managing director at Crowther Accountants, said: “We’re really excited to be able to bring back KACCL for another year. Last year’s event was a huge success and attended by more than 300 people who helped us smash the staggering total of £100,000 we’ve managed to raise over the last four years. We urge anyone interested in attending to secure their tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

“This year’s beneficiaries do some incredible work within our local communities. We can’t wait to bring the local business community together again to raise money for the brilliant services these four organisations provide.”

Stephen Naylor, chair of The Nick Smith Foundation, added: “It’s an honour for our charity be chosen by the KACCL team to be one of their beneficiaries for 2020. One of our aims is to support young people who are facing the death of a parent, just as Nick’s young children are having to face after his death in 2018.

“KACCL’s support will make an incredible difference to the work we can do and we can’t wait to work with them during the year ahead.”

The KACCL event will once again be compered by Pete Emmett and includes a prosecco reception, three course lunch, a charity auction and entertainment by the Orange Box Choir (part of Square Chapel Arts Centre community outreach programme.) The choir was set up from the funds raised by the second KACCL event in 2007 and has performed at KACCL ever since.

The KACCL organising committee represents figures from local businesses across the region, which includes JR Group UK Ltd, Stafflex, Chadwick Lawrence, Faith PR, Eastwood & Partners, Brug Consultancy, HelloMint, Cedar Court Hotels and Crowther Accountants.
