Experts predict that pandemic will have a long-term impact on the way we work. However, the line between home and work can easily become blurred, which is why it is important to ensure that you focus on finding the right balance.
Tips on maintaining a good balance while working at home
Get dressed and ready for the day
When working from home, it would be easy to roll out of bed and stay in your pyjamas all day. However, we find that getting dressed and prepared for the working day helps change your frame of mind.
That’s not to say you have to put on high heels or a suit but getting changed into something other than pyjamas changes your mindset and gets you in the headspace for work.
Have a dedicated workspace
Another important element of working from home is having a dedicated workspace. It’s easier said than done in a busy household but having a small area that is solely focused for work will, like getting dressed, put you into the right frame of mind for work.
When you have your space, treat it like your office. It doesn’t have to be a huge area or even a whole room. At Faith PR, we have desks in bedrooms, dining rooms and playrooms that are our workspaces, but we all make sure that we keep that area exclusively for work.
Working from home can easily become isolating. It is important to keep lines of communication open and that the team check-in with each other regularly. It doesn’t always have to be work-related conversations; just make sure as a team that you talk regularly to check in on each other.
Take regular breaks
One of the issues of working from home during a pandemic is that without the commute to the office, you spend more time indoors, which could lead to making you feel trapped in your home.
To ensure that this doesn’t happen, take regular breaks throughout the day. Have dedicated time for yourself; spend that time disconnecting from work and doing something that you enjoy, such as reading or watching TV. It will help create that distinction between work and home.
